PGET Medicine exam pattern
- Conducted by: UHS Lahore for the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department, Punjab. PGET replaced JCAT and is required for MD, MS, MDS and FCPS seats under the Central Induction Policy.
- Papers: two papers of 100 MCQs each, 100 marks and two hours per paper, held on the same day.
- Paper I: basic medical sciences on the MBBS syllabus.
- Paper II: specialty specific. For Medicine & Allied it covers the MBBS internal medicine syllabus and its clinical application up to the end of house job.
- Passing: you must score at or above the 75th percentile. It is a ranking, not a fixed mark, so about one in four candidates passes.
- Merit: PGET marks carry 75% weightage in induction merit.
- Frequency: UHS plans two sittings a year (March/April and September/October). Confirm dates on the UHS admissions portal before you plan.

How PGET Medicine differs from FCPS Part 1
- Paper II is clinical. FCPS Part 1 Medicine Paper II is applied basic science; PGET Medicine Paper II is internal medicine. You need a clinical book for PGET.
- Community medicine and behavioural sciences count. Together they carry 17 MCQs in PGET Paper I, far more than in FCPS Part 1.
- It is a ranking. With a percentile cut-off and 75% merit weightage, every extra mark moves you up the induction list.
- The overlap is large. Paper I is close to FCPS Part 1 Paper I, so SK, Rafiullah, Rabia Ali and Mediverse past papers remain the best practice. Every SK edition carries different sessions’ papers, so older editions are still useful.

A study plan for PGET Medicine
Plan three to five months. Register for your Paper II specialty early, because it is fixed at registration.
- Months 1 to 2: Paper I by subject in Table of Specifications order (anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, community medicine). Read your theory book and the BRS or Snell chapter, then solve the matching MCQs from SK, Rafiullah, Rabia Ali and Medicall the same day.
- Months 2 to 3: Paper II system by system, starting with cardiology, gastroenterology and the four 10-MCQ systems. Read Master the Boards, then do PGET-pattern MCQs.
- Final month: revise both papers, then sit full timed papers of 100 MCQs in 120 minutes (about 72 seconds per question). Rehearse the full two-paper day at least once.
