Choosing the right FCPS Part 1 Dentistry books is the first real decision of your preparation, and most candidates lose time by buying too many. This guide is built from the study plans of candidates who passed FCPS Part 1 Dentistry (shared on Coffeedent), preparation guides from MedCrack and Part1pk, and student discussions on r/Pakmedschool. It tells you what toppers actually read, what is optional, and gives a ready buy list with one-click add to cart.
FCPS Part 1 Dentistry exam pattern
- Two papers, each with 100 single best answer MCQs, taken on computer at CPSP centres.
- Paper I covers basic medical sciences: anatomy (head and neck matters most for dental candidates), physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology and pharmacology, with a few questions on behavioural sciences, biostatistics and ethics.
- Paper II is dentistry specific: oral biology and tooth morphology, oral histology and embryology, oral pathology and oral medicine, dental materials, and core clinical dentistry.
- CPSP holds sessions in January, April, July and October. Always check the latest CPSP FCPS-I guideline for timing, eligibility and passing rules before you apply.
What successful candidates agree on
- MCQs first, theory second. Every topper plan is built around 2 to 3 MCQ books revised three times, with theory read only to understand the questions.
- Do not overload. One candidate who failed his first attempt said reading too many books left no time to revise. A small set revised three times beats a big shelf read once.
- First Aid is the backbone. USMLE First Aid for Paper I and NBDE First Aid for dental subjects appear in almost every plan.
- Basic sciences are the hardest part for BDS graduates, because much of it was not taught in dental college. Give Paper I subjects extra time.
- Finish with recent papers and mocks. Spend the last 10 days on the last two years’ papers and timed mock tests. CPSP now asks more concept based questions, so understand the logic behind each answer.

FCPS Part 1 Dentistry FAQs
Which is the most important book for FCPS Part 1 Dentistry?
SK Pearls Eeshaa Notes of Dentistry, followed by Asim & Shoaib Dentistry. A large share of CPSP dental MCQs repeat from these two, so revise both at least three times.
Are BDS textbooks enough for FCPS Part 1 Dentistry?
No. Paper I tests basic medical sciences at a level close to MBBS, so add USMLE First Aid, BRS Physiology and Snell Clinical Anatomy Review to your dental books.
How long does FCPS Part 1 Dentistry preparation take?
Most candidates who pass prepare for three to five months of steady study. Three full revisions of the MCQ books matter more than the total number of months.
Do I need big textbooks like Ten Cate or Neville?
Only as a reference. Open them when an MCQ explanation is not clear, rather than reading them cover to cover.
Can I order FCPS Part 1 Dentistry books with cash on delivery?
Yes. UPMED Books delivers across Pakistan with cash on delivery. Use the buttons above to add single books or the full essential pack to your cart, or browse all dentistry books and FCPS Part 1 books.
