Choosing the right FCPS Part 1 Medicine books decides how many weeks you spend reading and how many revisions you manage before the exam. This guide brings together the study plans of candidates who passed FCPS Part 1 Medicine and Allied, topper guides that are still widely shared, and recent discussions on r/Pakmedschool, r/PakDoctors and r/islamabad. It tells you which books passers actually used, which are optional, and gives a ready buy list with one-click add to cart.
FCPS Part 1 Medicine exam pattern
- Two papers, each with 100 single best answer MCQs, taken on computer at CPSP centres. There is no negative marking.
- Paper I is common to all specialties: anatomy (gross, embryology, histology, neuroanatomy), physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology with microbiology, research and biostatistics, and behavioural sciences with ethics.
- Paper II (Medicine & Allied) is still a basic sciences paper, applied to medicine: CNS and autonomic anatomy; physiology and biochemistry of the heart, kidney, lungs, gut, endocrine system and special senses; immunology, neoplasia, genetics, viruses and parasites; and cardiovascular, antimicrobial, endocrine and autonomic drugs.
- CPSP holds several sessions a year. Pass rules, time per paper and session dates change, so always confirm them in the latest CPSP FCPS-I notice before you apply.
What FCPS Part 1 Medicine passers agree on
- Past papers are the engine. Toppers solve 100 to 150 MCQs a day, and a large share of CPSP questions repeat or follow old themes.
- Every SK edition counts. Each SK book carries the papers of different sessions. SK 24, for example, has only the July 2026 papers, so a newer SK does not replace the older ones.
- Theory from one concise source. Most guides build theory around USMLE First Aid Step 1; Naseem Sherzad’s MNS and Rafiullah Fast Aid serve the same role. Pick one and revise it at least twice.
- Understand, do not cram. A February 2025 passer advised learning the concept behind each answer, because CPSP now writes more scenario based questions.
- Check doubtful keys. MCQ books contain errors. When a key looks wrong, confirm it in your theory book instead of memorising it.
- Simulate the exam. Use the CPSP online demo and sit several full 100-question timed papers before the real day.

A study plan for FCPS Part 1 Medicine
Most passers prepare for two to four months. If you are working, plan three to four months at five to six hours a day; full-time candidates often manage in about two months.
- Phase 1 (first half): go region by region. Read the topic in your theory book and the matching BRS or Snell chapter, then solve its MCQs from SK, Rafiullah, Rabia Ali and Medicall the same day.
- Phase 2: MCQs only. Second pass of all MCQ books at 100 to 150 MCQs a day, opening theory only for questions you got wrong.
- Final three weeks: third revision of your marked MCQs, the latest SK editions, theory tables (embryology, immunology, physiology), and timed 100-question papers.

FCPS Part 1 Medicine FAQs
Which is the best book for FCPS Part 1 Medicine?
There is no single book. Passers combine Salahuddin Kamal (SK) books, Rafiullah FCPS Pearls, Rabia Ali and Mediverse Medicall for MCQs with one theory book: USMLE First Aid, Naseem Sherzad’s MNS or Rafiullah Fast Aid. BRS Physiology, Snell Clinical Anatomy Review and BRS Pathology fill the gaps.
Do I need older SK editions if I have the latest SK?
Yes. Each SK edition carries the papers of different sessions. SK 24 has only the July 2026 papers, so older editions are not obsolete. SK Medicine 1-19 covers golden files 1 to 19 for Medicine and Allied; add SK 20 to SK 24 for later sessions.
Can I use Naseem Sherzad or Rafiullah Fast Aid instead of First Aid?
Yes. MNS FCPS-1 High Yield by Naseem Sherzad and Rafiullah Fast Aid are widely used alternatives to USMLE First Aid for FCPS Part 1 theory. Choose one and revise it at least twice.
Do I need Davidson or Kumar & Clark for FCPS Part 1 Medicine?
No. Both papers of FCPS Part 1 Medicine test basic sciences. Clinical medicine textbooks become useful for IMM, FCPS Part II and the Punjab PGET Paper II.
